In a bid to enforce the state's Homeland Security Law, 2025, the Anambra State Government has taken eight pastors to court. The pastors, who were identified as Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu, Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma, and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama, were arraigned before a High Court in Awka. They were brought to the court by the state's security outfit, Agunechemba, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Ken Emeakayi. The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), is handling the prosecution. The court proceedings had commenced at the time of filing this report. This development is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to crack down on individuals it considers to be fake pastors, native doctors, and spiritualists who allegedly engage in activities that promote criminality. Governor Chukwuma Soludo had earlier stated that several suspects were in custody as part of the enforcement of the Homeland Security Law. Speaking at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Awka in May, Soludo said the government had intensified its efforts against persons who allegedly exploit members of the public under the guise of religious activities. He said, 'The state has commenced an ongoing crackdown on fake pastors who exploit the vulnerable by preaching the gospel of salvation without the cross. As I speak now, several of them are already in custody and confessing.' The arraignment of the eight pastors is a significant step in the state government's quest to ensure the security and well-being of its citizens.
