Borno Troops Receive Surrendered Boko Haram Affiliate

In a significant development, a woman associated with a notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist family has abandoned her insurgent enclave in the Mandara Mountains and surrendered to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State. According to military sources, the woman, identified as Ghwa’a Biwa, presented herself to the troops of the 192 Battalion (Mechanised) at a company location in Gwoza Local Government Area. Her decision to escape and surrender was reportedly influenced by the harsh living conditions within the insurgent camp, including a severe shortage of essential necessities. Additionally, the sustained military pressure on terrorist enclaves in the area has contributed to the difficult conditions faced by the insurgents and their families, as revealed by the escapee during preliminary screening. Following her surrender on June 2, 2026, Ghwa’a Biwa was properly screened and documented, and she is currently in military custody for further necessary action. This recent surrender is part of a series of escapes and surrenders from terrorist camps in the North-East, attributed by security analysts to the sustained military operations and increased pressure on insurgent groups in the region. The military authorities have noted that while the general security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, troops continue to maintain a high level of vigilance, with satisfactory morale and fighting efficiency among personnel engaged in ongoing counter-insurgency operations. Operation Hadin Kai is intensifying its efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves and encourage insurgents and their family members to abandon violence and reintegrate into society peacefully.
