Major Breakthrough as Yobe Police Busts Illegal Firearms Factory

In a significant development in the fight against crime, the Nigeria Police Force in Yobe State has successfully uncovered an illicit factory producing fabricated firearms in Potiskum, leading to the arrest of seven suspects. This operation, which was conducted on June 2, 2026, was the result of a collaborative effort between the Potiskum Area Command and the Divisional Police Headquarters, following credible intelligence that certain blacksmiths were involved in the unlawful production of firearms. According to SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command's spokesperson, the police acted swiftly on the information, carrying out a coordinated raid at a blacksmith workshop located at Tasha Adua along Danchuwa Road in Potiskum. During the operation, officers apprehended seven suspects and recovered a variety of fabricated firearms and equipment, including pistols, muzzle pipes, gun butts, unserviceable Dane guns, a filing machine, and a cutlass. The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has instructed the officers handling the case to intensify their investigation, aiming to identify other potential collaborators, buyers, and the intended use of the firearms. Furthermore, the police have urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies, emphasizing the importance of not allowing their premises to be used for unlawful activities. As the investigation continues, the police are working to assess the level of security threat posed by such criminal activities and to identify other illegal firearms fabrication centers within the area.
