In a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, the Nigerian Navy has successfully apprehended a suspected terrorist collaborator, identified as Baba Saidu Abdullahi, in the Lake Chad region. This achievement was made possible through the effective utilization of drone surveillance technology during an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance mission conducted by personnel of the Naval Base Lake Chad. According to a statement released by the Director of Naval Information, Captain AA Folorunsho, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the suspect was observed moving from a location that had been previously identified as a terrorist hideout. Further monitoring revealed interactions between the suspect and armed terrorist elements before he departed the area. The Nigerian Navy's ability to track the suspect in real-time, from the Dumba axis to the vicinity of Charlie Company, 196 Amphibious Battalion, ultimately led to his apprehension. Preliminary investigations have indicated that the suspect frequently travelled between Dumba and Baga Town and allegedly maintained contact with terrorist elements operating within the region. The suspect is believed to have been involved in providing logistical support to the terrorists through the procurement and movement of essential supplies. A search conducted on the suspect resulted in the recovery of personal effects and other items considered relevant to ongoing investigations. Following preliminary interrogation, the suspect was handed over to the appropriate military authorities for further investigation and necessary action in accordance with established procedures. This operation highlights the crucial role of intelligence, surveillance, and technology-driven operations in enhancing situational awareness and supporting ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the Lake Chad region. The Nigerian Navy remains committed to supporting joint operations under Operation HADIN KAI and will continue to deploy available assets and capabilities to deny terrorist elements freedom of action while contributing to the restoration of peace and security in the North East.
