A gruesome incident has occurred in Plateau State, where unknown assailants have taken the life of the traditional ruler of Timshat, Godwin Vonga. The tragic event unfolded on Sunday, May 31, 2026, along the Timshat-Mabudi Road in Langtang South Local Government Area. According to reports, the monarch was attacked while returning home after dropping off his children at school in the neighboring town of Mabudi. The community of Timshat and its surroundings have been thrown into a state of mourning following the death of the respected leader. A resident of the community, Nanbol Pirfa, expressed that the motive behind the killing remains unclear, describing the late Godwin Vonga as a respected leader and public servant. The Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area, Hon. Nanfa Alhassan Nbin, has condemned the incident, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable. Through his spokesman, Butko Bako Iliya, the chairman sympathized with the family of the deceased and the entire Langtang South community, vowing that the perpetrators of the crime would face justice. He urged residents to assist the police in gathering information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. The chairman also warned criminal gangs operating in the area to desist from such acts or face the full weight of the law. The death of Godwin Vonga has sent shockwaves throughout the community, with many calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
