Delta Musician's Killing: Five Policemen Sent to Correctional Centre

In a significant development in the case of Oghenemine Ogidi, a 28-year-old musician from Delta State who was killed on April 26, 2026, five police officers have been remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre. The officers, who include ASP Usman Nuhu, ASP Onoloko Dauroupamo, ASP Okoh Kelechi, Inspector Goodluck Kingsley, and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu, appeared before High Court 5 in Asaba, presided over by Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro. The court adjourned the case until June 15, 2026, pending further proceedings and a request for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu described the development as a step in the right direction, expressing hope that the trial would commence soon. However, he raised concerns about the lack of communication between the authorities and the deceased's family, who were not adequately informed about the court proceedings. The family members, including Emuobor Alex and Victory Ogidi, expressed frustration at being left out of the loop and appealed to the authorities to keep them updated on the case. The incident that led to Ogidi's death occurred in Effurun, Delta State, where he was allegedly intercepted by police while delivering a package. A viral video of the incident sparked public outrage, and the case has been drawing attention from rights groups and members of the public.
