Abia Governor, Ex-Governor Mourn Death of Top Police Officer Uzuegbu

The Nigerian Police Force has lost a high-ranking officer, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, who was in charge of Zone 9. This sad news was announced by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, after the Labour Party primaries on Saturday. According to Governor Otti, AIG Uzuegbu died due to complications related to cancer. The governor revealed that efforts were made to save his life, including sending him to Enugu for treatment, but unfortunately, he passed away. Governor Otti described the late AIG as a good man and expressed regret over his death. He also directed that a minute of silence be observed in his honour. The late AIG Uzuegbu had resumed duty as the AIG of Zone 9 last year. Reacting to the news, former Abia State governors, Orji Uzor Kalu and Theodore Orji, extended their condolences to the Nigeria Police Force and the family of the deceased. In a statement, Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, expressed sadness over the death of AIG Uzuegbu, describing him as a dedicated, disciplined, and highly professional officer. Kalu noted that the late AIG made significant contributions to maintaining peace, security, and public order, particularly in the South-East region. He extended his condolences to the Inspector General of Police, officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, the government and people of Imo State, and the family of the deceased. Orji also described the AIG's death as shocking and untimely, and prayed for God to grant those affected the fortitude to bear the loss.
