Leading Nigerian fuel stations, among them MRS, which is associated with Dangote Refinery, have adjusted upwards the retail cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as petrol. Findings from a market survey conducted on Monday morning revealed that petrol prices in Abuja and its surrounding areas have climbed to N1,409 per litre, a significant increase from the previous N1,370.

Specifically, MRS outlets saw their petrol pump prices go up by N39 per litre over the past weekend. This revised pricing structure is now in effect at various MRS locations across Abuja, including Kubwa, Katampe, and Gwarimpa. In a similar vein, Ranoil and AA Rano also implemented price adjustments, raising their petrol prices by N10 per litre, moving from N1,400 to N1,410 across their various stations.

These price hikes coincide with a proposal from the Federal Government, articulated by the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to offer a discounted petrol price of N1,350 per litre exclusively at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) outlets. Consequently, fuel retailers and marketers have called upon the Federal Government to broaden this fuel price initiative, extending its benefits to a wider network of filling stations beyond just NNPCL.
