Anambra State Government Calls for Investors Ahead of Industrial City Launch

Anambra State authorities are actively inviting prospective investors to participate in preliminary discussions concerning the forthcoming launch of its Mixed-Use Industrial City. A key focus for this ambitious venture includes ensuring robust infrastructure, specifically access roads, reliable electricity, adequate water provision, and enhanced security. This development was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, in a statement issued on Tuesday. Mefor confirmed that this invitation formed part of several crucial decisions made during the Anambra State Executive Council meeting, which convened at the "Light House" in Awka on Monday.

Commissioner Mefor further noted that the council dedicated time to reflect on Nigeria's Independence Day, delving into its historical context and national significance. Residents were urged to prepare for the upcoming annual celebrations. Additionally, the council passed a resolution aimed at streamlining various law enforcement bodies within the state. This strategic move seeks to prevent duplication of duties, curb the excessive growth of these groups, and ultimately boost their operational efficiency, minimize inter-agency disputes, and foster greater accountability to the public.

According to the official statement, the Soludo administration's second-term Anambra State Executive Council convened its 14th meeting on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Light House in Awka, where a series of pivotal decisions were reached. Among these, the Council reflected on the historical and strategic importance of Independence Day for the nation, calling on Ndi Anambra to ready themselves for the 2026 celebration scheduled for Thursday, October 1, at Ekwueme Square with the State Government. The statement reiterated that the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City is set for an imminent launch, with the government extending invitations to prospective investors for discussions, highlighting crucial infrastructure such as access roads, electricity, water supply, and security as key facilitating factors.

Separately, the Council also received an update regarding Uga Boys Smart Boarding Secondary School, confirming that admissions are still ongoing. However, it was specified that only students seeking boarding facilities should apply, as the available slots for day students have already been fully subscribed. This re-envisioned secondary school now provides a blend of smart learning and a full boarding experience.

Furthermore, Mefor conveyed that the council mandated integrity assessments for all student hostels in schools throughout the state to guarantee continuous safety. Plans are also in motion to upgrade the state's Material Testing Laboratory and reinforce its foundational legislation, thereby ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all integrity tests conducted.

The official communiqué also detailed the council's resolution to streamline state law enforcement agencies, aiming to eradicate overlapping responsibilities and unchecked expansion. This measure is expected to bolster their effectiveness, mitigate conflicts, and enhance public accountability. Another significant decision involves the repossession and repurposing of all government lands currently under occupation across the state. This move stems from widespread reports of illegal encroachment on state-owned properties and the increasing demand for land for public projects. Individuals unlawfully occupying these government lands have been advised to vacate immediately, as authorities may proceed with enforcement and repossession without further warning. Lastly, the council confirmed that the second iteration of the 'Onwa Dezemba' program, initially launched by the Anambra State Government in December 2025, is scheduled for December 2026. This year's event will feature numerous activities from the previous edition, complemented by documentaries showcasing how various Anambra communities observe the Yuletide season. The government expressed its commitment to leveraging and formalizing the Yuletide period, recognizing its crucial role in enabling Ndi Anambra to reconnect with their roots and engage in diverse cultural and social gatherings.
