Dangote's Daughters Prioritize Professional Achievements Over Public Display, Halima Says

A video that recently resurfaced online, featuring the three daughters of Nigeria's prominent businessman Aliko Dangote, has ignited considerable discussion across social media platforms. In the clip, which gained traction on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Halima Dangote addressed their upbringing and public persona, stating that despite their wealthy background, she and her sisters were not “spoilt.”

The footage originates from a Bloomberg's Next Africa special, where Halima, Mariya, and Fatima Dangote were interviewed at their family residence in Lagos. During the interview, Halima articulated their deliberate choice to maintain a modest public presence, emphasizing their preference for their professional accomplishments to be their voice. “We are not spoilt,” she declared, further explaining that when encountering peers, particularly children of their father's associates, they generally do not disclose their identity. “We are more… we’re quiet in the sense that we don’t say who we are,” she elaborated, acknowledging that recent recognition makes this harder. “Our results speak for themselves,” she added.

Halima further clarified that unlike individuals comfortable with extensive social media engagement and public attention, she and her sisters refrain from overtly showcasing their affluence or possessions. “I don’t think we are — all three of us are not expressive of what we have or what we own or what we’re doing,” she noted. The sisters, she said, prefer to be evaluated based on their work performance. Echoing her sisters Fatima and Mariya, Halima stated, “the results are just the ones speaking for themselves: the sale of this business, the profit of this, the EBITDA, our growth, growing to $100 billion. We are all in those key positions and, I mean, numbers don’t lie.”
