Governor Eno Highlights Ibom Air's Consistent Expansion with New Airbus Arrival

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has hailed the recent acquisition of an Airbus aircraft for the state-owned Ibom Air as a significant achievement. According to a statement released by the state government's media office in Uyo on Thursday, Governor Eno, speaking to journalists upon his arrival at the Ibom International Airport, described the new addition as a clear indication of his administration's sustained investment in growing the airline and bolstering the aviation industry.
Eno stated that this latest aircraft is crucial not just for Ibom Air but also for the state's broader objective of developing a robust aviation ecosystem. He noted that this acquisition marks the third Airbus aircraft since his government took office in 2023, demonstrating a committed and deliberate investment in the sector. "The new aircraft speaks volumes, not just for Ibom Air, but for Akwa Ibom State as we seek to expand the airline. It shows consistency. This is the third Airbus aircraft since we came into office in 2023, while we have also fully paid for two aircraft. So, we have done five aircraft, and that shows consistency," Governor Eno affirmed.
The governor also provided updates on the progress of the Aviation Village, specifically highlighting that the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility is nearing completion. He projected that once fully operational, the aviation sector would be a major contributor to job creation, foreign exchange generation, and the state's Gross Domestic Product. "When all of this ecosystem begins to function the way it should, you’ll see the jobs it is going to create, the foreign exchange earnings it’s going to bring and, of course, the effect on our GDP as a state," he remarked.
Expressing optimism, Governor Eno believes these strategic investments will lead to tangible improvements in the quality of life for Akwa Ibom citizens. "That is where, by the grace of God, we are going to see the dividends of democracy," he added. This development follows Governor Eno's recent trip to Montreal, Canada, where he led a state delegation for the pre-delivery inspection of Ibom Air's third Airbus A220-300. The brand-new aircraft is scheduled to arrive at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on August 30, 2026, which will bring Ibom Air's total fleet to 10 aircraft. This expansion is expected to significantly enhance the airline's capacity, support its network growth, and improve air connectivity both within Nigeria and internationally.
