Edo State Sees Boost in Diaspora Investments After Okpebholo's UK Tour

Dr. Paddy Iyamu, the candidate for the Oredo Federal House of Representatives in Edo State, has expressed optimism that Governor Monday Okpebholo's recent working visit to the United Kingdom will yield positive results for the state. According to Iyamu, who is a former commissioner in the state, the visit will lead to an increase in diaspora remittances and investments in Edo State. Iyamu stated this in an interview with journalists in Benin, noting that the governor's engagement with Edo indigenes and business leaders in the UK has bolstered confidence among members of the diaspora community. The former commissioner explained that the strengthened ties between the state government and Edo people abroad will translate into increased financial support for community development projects and investments in the state. He quoted the governor as saying, 'The visit will improve diaspora remittance and support because stronger ties with Edo people abroad mean more support for community projects and increased inflows back home.' Iyamu also revealed that the governor used the opportunity to showcase his administration's achievements under the SHINE Agenda, highlighting progress made in the areas of security, healthcare, infrastructure, and education. The governor also presented Edo State as a viable destination for local and foreign investments. Furthermore, Iyamu disclosed that the governor assured Edo indigenes in the diaspora of his administration's readiness to support genuine investors, including offering land to Edo sons and daughters with viable plans to establish industries in the state. The governor also outlined plans to deepen investments in agriculture and technology, including the proposed establishment of a Cisco Academy to equip youths with globally competitive digital skills. Iyamu commended the governor for his leadership style, which prioritizes openness and engagement with the people, and expressed confidence that the gains from the visit would translate into sustainable economic opportunities for Edo residents.
