Pedro Neto's Double Seals 2-0 Premier League Victory for Chelsea Against Everton

Full Story
Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, inflicting the Toffees' first defeat of the season, a match marred by a severe head injury to goalkeeper Emi Martinez. Pedro Neto was the star of the show, bagging both goals for the Blues.
Neto broke the deadlock early in the second half, just moments after the restart, and later sealed the crucial three points for Chelsea deep into the 11 minutes of added time, which was largely due to the prolonged medical attention Martinez received. The Argentine shot-stopper suffered a serious head collision with Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and was subsequently rushed to the hospital for further medical evaluation. This win propelled Chelsea past Everton, earning them a spot within the Premier League's coveted top four.
Following a subdued opening period, the tension escalated significantly when Everton's midfielder, Harrison Armstrong, committed a robust challenge on Josh Acheampong, resulting in the first of five yellow cards issued before halftime. The incident galvanized the home supporters and seemed to invigorate Everton, who then enjoyed their most dominant phase of play. Frenchman Thierno Barry continued his struggle with finishing, squandering a prime opportunity when his header from Jack Grealish’s pinpoint cross was directed straight at Martinez.
Despite Chelsea's reputation for quick starts under manager Xabi Alonso, their first real threat materialized just four minutes before the interval, as Moises Caicedo unleashed a powerful shot that cannoned off the crossbar following a cleverly executed corner routine. Everton players and fans expressed strong displeasure after Morgan Rogers avoided a second yellow card shortly before halftime, despite a forceful collision with his England colleague, James Garner. This controversial decision proved pivotal, as Chelsea, the visiting side, emerged from the changing rooms with renewed vigor at the commencement of the second half.
Jorrel Hato skillfully drove to the byline, delivering a precise low cross that found Neto, who calmly controlled the ball before clinically striking it low beyond the reach of Pickford. While Chelsea had gone 22 Premier League matches without a clean sheet, a run dating back to January, they faced minimal pressure from an Everton team that lacked attacking depth, even after Martinez's injury forced his departure. The extensive medical attention given to the goalkeeper briefly threatened to disrupt Chelsea's rhythm, even as they maintained control throughout the second half.
Mike Penders, the Belgian substitute, made his Premier League debut replacing Martinez but was largely untested, only having to manage a few frantic crosses from Everton. At the opposite end of the pitch, Pickford produced an excellent save to thwart Joao Pedro. However, Chelsea eventually doubled their lead when Neto expertly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net, following Jordan Henderson’s free-kick which was initially blocked by the Everton defensive wall.
