German Star Antonio Rüdiger Hangs Up International Boots

Real Madrid's formidable defender, Antonio Rüdiger, has officially announced his departure from international football. The decision comes two months after the 33-year-old center-back made his last appearance for the German national team during the 2026 World Cup. Over a distinguished 12-year career representing the four-time world champions, Rüdiger amassed 86 caps.

In a statement shared on social media, Rüdiger explained his decision, saying, "After some time reflecting, the moment has come for me to end my national team career and clear the way for the young generation." His senior debut for Germany was in May 2014 against Poland, just a month before the nation clinched the World Cup in Brazil, though he was not part of that victorious squad.

A significant highlight of his time with the national team was helping Germany secure the FIFA Confederations Cup title in 2017. Rüdiger now plans to dedicate his full attention to his club commitments with Spanish giants Real Madrid. Born in Berlin, Rüdiger honed his skills in the youth setups of Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart. His professional journey saw him play for AS Roma and Chelsea, where he famously lifted the 2021 UEFA Champions League trophy before making his move to Real Madrid in 2022. His final match for Germany was a round-of-32 fixture against Paraguay at the 2026 World Cup.
