Barcelona has officially confirmed the acquisition of Spanish midfielder Rodri from English club Manchester City, in a transfer valued at £65.4 million. Rodri, a 30-year-old player who is a Spain World Cup winner and a former Ballon d'Or recipient, has committed to a four-year agreement with the LaLiga giants. Prior to reaching this final agreement, Manchester City had rejected two earlier bids from Barcelona, one for £40 million and another for £55 million.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Rodri stated, "I am incredibly happy and eager for this new chapter in my professional journey. It represents a fresh challenge, an opportunity to encounter novel experiences and rekindle that excitement." He added, "I’ve joined a highly ambitious club that perfectly aligns with my character, so I will strive to contribute in every possible way to achieve our goals this season."

Commenting on the prospect of playing under German coach Hansi Flick, Rodri remarked, "I am pleased to have a manager who I believe will significantly benefit my career. His coaching philosophy, I anticipate, will be somewhat distinct from what I’ve experienced previously, making it a valuable and growth-inducing experience as a player."

Rodri's departure concludes a seven-season tenure at Manchester City, where he made 298 appearances and accumulated an impressive tally of 12 major honours. These include four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and the coveted Champions League trophy in 2023. Although his last two seasons were hampered by injuries, he regained peak form during this summer's World Cup, where he was named player of the tournament as Spain secured their second title.

In a heartfelt farewell message to the Manchester City faithful, Rodri conveyed, "I am leaving this club with immense pride for our collective achievements and profound gratitude for the countless wonderful memories. What we accomplished together over these years is truly extraordinary and unforgettable." He further reflected on his personal growth, saying, "City didn't just help me evolve as a footballer; it nurtured my development as a person. I witnessed my brother graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University, and my girlfriend pursuing her career with the NHS. Manchester, truly, shaped my entire life."
