Aminu Good Works Foundation Unveils Basketball Talents in Oyo

The 10th edition of the Aminu Good Works Foundation Nigeria Basketball Combine has come to a close, with the emergence of new talents in the basketball scene. The three-day event, which took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State, featured 150 young basketball players, comprising 100 boys and 50 girls, mainly from Oyo State. The event also had 15 coaches in attendance, with each coach assigned to a group of 10 players. At the end of the combine, Precious Jude and Ajibade Abraham were named the Most Valuable Players, while a First Team of 14 male and female players was also selected. In an interview with The PUNCH, Aminu Al-Farouq, the founder of the Aminu Good Works Foundation and a Nigerian basketball icon, stated that the initiative was his way of giving back to the community. According to Al-Farouq, 'it was a higher power' that motivated him to start the foundation, and he felt a strong calling to contribute to the development of basketball in Nigeria. Al-Farouq expressed his passion for the project, which has been running for 10 years, and stated that he is committed to continuing the foundation's work. The foundation has been consistent in its efforts, with the exception of a year when the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Al-Farouq noted that the camp was named 'Who is the Chief?' to discover the next generation of basketball leaders. The 10th Nigeria Basketball Combine is scheduled to continue in Abuja from August 13 to 16.
