Galatasaray's Osimhen Explains Why He Kept His Lucky Number 45 Shirt

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has provided insight into his choice to forgo Galatasaray's iconic number nine jersey, opting instead to maintain his number 45 shirt for the upcoming season. Osimhen, who joined the reigning Turkish champions permanently last summer after a successful loan stint, has rapidly emerged as one of the club's most influential players. His stellar performances have garnered significant praise from fans and solidified his position as a crucial asset at Rams Park.
Many had anticipated that the Nigerian attacker would take over Galatasaray's number nine shirt, a jersey historically worn by elite attacking talents and previously associated with Mauro Icardi. However, Osimhen chose to stick with the number 45, which he has donned since his initial arrival at the club. Explaining his rationale, Osimhen stated that the number has brought him good fortune and expressed his preference to continue with a shirt that has served him well.
According to a report from Sabah Spor, a Turkish sports news outlet, shared on its X handle on Thursday, Osimhen was quoted saying, "I believe you will sell more shirts, but I think you will understand my perspective. The number 45 has been lucky for me at Galatasaray." He further added, "I want to continue with the same number."
Since his permanent transfer from Napoli, Osimhen has cemented his status as a fan favorite, consistently delivering crucial goals and robust performances for the Yellow-Reds. The Nigerian striker recently scored his first goal of the preseason during Galatasaray's 3-3 draw against Rennes in Istanbul, as the club intensifies its preparations for the new campaign. Osimhen is now focused on sustaining his impressive form as Galatasaray aims to defend its domestic title and compete strongly in the new season. Other football news includes Iniesta urging Barca to sign Osimhen, Hamburg targeting Moffi after Nice exile, and Onuachu getting a Salah boost at Trabzonspor.
