FIFA Crisis Deepens as Infantino Faces Mounting Pressure to Resign

Infantino's plan, which was announced last week, aimed to raise up to $4.2 billion through the creation of a new commercial subsidiary called the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). The proposal was met with fierce opposition from European football's governing body, UEFA, which threatened to boycott the World Cup if the plan was approved. Other governing bodies, including CONCACAF, also expressed their disapproval, with CONCACAF calling for 'a comprehensive reckoning with this presidency.' The backlash has put Infantino's position as FIFA president under significant pressure, with many calling for his resignation. Former Barcelona and Real Madrid star, Luis Figo, was among those who publicly expressed their disapproval, stating that 'Infantino must go.' In a statement published in the Daily Mail, Figo wrote, 'I could write 10,000 words on the problems at FIFA. But the solution needs only three: Infantino must go.' Despite the mounting pressure, Infantino still has the support of some figures, including Moroccan Football chief, Fouzi Lekjaa, who praised his decision to scrap the plan as 'wise.'
