In a dramatic turn of events, Nigeria's men's 4x100m relay team has seen their silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games downgraded to bronze. This decision came after Canada successfully appealed against their initial disqualification, which had initially led to Nigeria being awarded the silver medal. The Nigerian team, comprising Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede, and Udodi Onwuzurike, had finished third in the event's final. However, when Canada, who finished second with a time of 38.11 seconds, was disqualified due to an alleged lane infringement, Nigeria was elevated to the silver position. The Canadians were already celebrating their near-win in the mixed zone when the disqualification was announced, only to later appeal the decision. After a stalled medal presentation, the appeal was upheld, leading to the adjustment in the medal standings. As a result, the official website of the 2026 Commonwealth Games has been updated to reflect these changes. So far, Team Nigeria has secured a total of 23 medals at the games, including ten gold medals, six silver, and seven bronze.
