The United States White House has publicly declared its support for England to clinch the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy. This endorsement comes after the US national team, who are co-hosts of the tournament, exited the competition. Andrew Giuliani, a representative of US President Donald Trump on World Cup matters, indicated that an English victory would be a fitting outcome, especially after the home team’s elimination.

Speaking with the Daily Mail on Monday, Giuliani shared his perspective. He stated, “If the United States can’t win on our 250th birthday, then a great storyline would be the English coming to America and winning during our anniversary celebrations.” He acknowledged England’s long wait for a major title, adding, “It’s been 60 years of hurt, I gather, for England, so that would be a beautiful victory for them if they won the tournament.” Giuliani expressed confidence in their chances, asserting, “I do absolutely think England can go all the way. They are one of the top teams left now.”

Furthermore, Giuliani mentioned that President Trump has been closely following the performances of England's captain, Harry Kane, throughout the competition. He identified Kane as a crucial player with the potential to lead the Three Lions to the championship. Recalling a golf game with Trump and former England captain Wayne Rooney, Giuliani highlighted the US president's keen interest in football.

These remarks follow Kane's own disclosure about playing golf with Trump in Florida in late 2024. Describing the encounter, Kane called it “a pretty surreal experience” and commended the US president’s skill on the golf course, quipping, “I hope I can play golf as good as him when I’m his age.”

England is currently vying for their first World Cup title since their triumph in 1966. Their pursuit to break the 60-year drought for a second World Cup crown faces its sternest challenge yet. Thomas Tuchel’s squad is set to clash with the reigning champions, Argentina, in the semi-final match scheduled for Wednesday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Three Lions secured their spot in the final four after a 2-1 victory against Norway in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, an inspired Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, overcame Switzerland with a 3-1 win to also book their place in the semi-finals. The victor of this highly anticipated match will then proceed to face either France or Spain in Sunday’s grand final.
