Tragedy Strikes Kano: Three Sisters Die in Tiga Dam Boat Disaster

A profound tragedy has struck the Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State, where three sisters lost their lives after a boat they were traveling in overturned. The heartbreaking incident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Tiga Dam.

The victims, identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu, and Bilkisu – the latter also known as Amira – were all daughters from the same family in the Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community. Family members confirmed the details of the unfortunate event, which has plunged the community into mourning.

Reacting to the devastating loss, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja Maijama’a, who serves as both the Chairperson of Tudun Wada Local Government and the Chair of the Kano State Association of Local Government Chairpersons, expressed deep sorrow. She characterized the accident as an immense blow to both the immediate family and the wider community.

“We share the pain of the bereaved family and pray that Almighty Allah forgives the deceased, grants them Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives their loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss,” Hajiya Soja Maijama’a stated.

The Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community has since been engulfed in a pall of grief, with residents, neighbours, and sympathisers gathering to mourn the untimely passing of the three siblings. As of the time of this report, no official communication regarding the cause of the canoe mishap has been released by emergency services or marine safety authorities.
