PRP Uncovers Alleged Scheme to Factionalize Party Ahead of 2027 Polls

Full Story
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) on Thursday sounded an alarm, revealing an alleged scheme aimed at destabilizing its structure, undermining its electoral prospects, and weakening ongoing efforts to build a credible opposition coalition before the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released from Abuja, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the PRP, accused certain former members and current officials of orchestrating these divisive tactics. These individuals are purportedly working to fracture the party's internal unity and sabotage its vital grassroots support base. Baba-Ahmed alleged that those behind this plot intend to deploy 'hundreds of millions of naira' to sway party members and create a separate faction within the organization. However, the party's statement did not identify the individuals involved nor did it provide specific evidence to corroborate these claims.
Baba-Ahmed urged both party members and the general public to resist what he described as attempts to subvert the PRP. He specifically highlighted and warned against the alleged recruitment of polling agents by individuals who lack the proper authority to do so. “In particular, attempts to recruit polling agents for the party by persons with no authority to do so should be resisted. Huge amounts of money may be available to buy members’ support for opposition candidates by party officials. These efforts should be resisted and exposed,” Baba-Ahmed stated.
The PRP chairman also issued a stern warning to any serving party officials found to be complicit in this alleged scheme, indicating that they would face severe disciplinary measures. He added, “The persons in the governing party involved in this scheme have been advised to steer clear of the PRP and distance themselves from attempts to create a faction with their party’s funds and their names. Serving officers of the Party involved in this scheme will face disciplinary measures.”
Reassuring the party's candidates and supporters, Baba-Ahmed affirmed that the leadership would not compromise their loyalty or commitment. He reiterated the PRP's unwavering resolve to challenge the current administration's continuity beyond 2027. Furthermore, he emphasized the party's continued participation in efforts to form a formidable opposition coalition capable of contesting the ruling party in the upcoming general election. These allegations surface amidst a period of significant political realignments and concerted efforts by various opposition parties to forge strategic alliances in anticipation of the 2027 elections, where the strength and unity of such platforms are expected to be pivotal.
