Kwankwaso Alleges Peter Obi's Popularity Troubles President Tinubu Ahead of 2027

Full Story
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned by the growing political influence of the NDC's presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, as the 2027 general elections draw closer. Kwankwaso made this statement on Thursday while featuring on Channels Television's 'Politics Today' programme, where he discussed his party’s preparations for the forthcoming polls.
During his appearance, Kwankwaso highlighted the widespread appeal of their candidate, stating, "Peter Obi is popular in the South, and we are mobilizing our people in the North. Even the President is concerned about the person of our presidential candidate, and he has been having sleepless nights because of him." He emphasized the NDC's strategy to combine Obi's strong southern base with their mobilization efforts in the northern regions.
The former Kano State governor further asserted that President Tinubu is aware he cannot achieve electoral triumph purely on his own merits, which compels him to depend significantly on the backing of state governors. Kwankwaso conveyed strong optimism regarding the opposition's chances, noting that both members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and Nigerians advocating for national change are uniting behind the NDC's candidacy. This consolidation aims to forge a powerful political alliance.
He concluded by mentioning that public endorsement for the party is steadily increasing, even in the face of alleged efforts by political adversaries to devise methods of electoral interference.
