ADC Chieftain, Dele Momodu, Vows to Thwart Tinubu's 2027 Re-election Bid

Full Story
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has declared that political opponents possess the means to hinder President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term during the 2027 general elections. Momodu made this assertion during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time program on Wednesday night, October 14.
While discussing the matter, Mr. Momodu indicated that the opposition is actively strategizing in private to challenge President Tinubu's bid for re-election, although he refrained from revealing the specifics of their approach. He remarked, "I can’t tell you about strategy in public. What we know is that once upon a time, Tinubu fought for himself to survive the second term as governor of Lagos State. So others are also working very hard behind the scenes." He reiterated, "We are not going to come in public and say this, but we know what to do to make sure that he does not get that second term."
The prominent publisher of Ovation Magazine also raised concerns regarding the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the current administration. He alleged that the President has appointed an excessive number of individuals from the South-West region to the electoral body, thereby eroding public confidence. According to Momodu, the level of trust among Nigerians for INEC to conduct credible elections is exceptionally low. He stated, “If you ask an average Nigerian today about Tinubu, do you trust Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election? I can tell you, 90 per cent of them will say no.” He further asserted, “Nobody trusts Tinubu to run a free and fair election, including his own supporters.”
On the question of whether President Tinubu would accept an electoral loss, Momodu contended that the collective will of ordinary Nigerians would ultimately determine the election’s result. He suggested that the general populace finds it difficult to envision the President serving an additional term in office.
Furthermore, the ADC chieftain claimed that a pervasive atmosphere of fear has stifled the conventional checks and balances on the presidency. He asserted that state governors, judicial officers, and members of the legislature are too apprehensive to openly challenge the President. Momodu remarked, “Governors are scared, judges are scared, legislators are scared. So, Tinubu has become a god that nobody is ready to face and say, ‘Oga, you’ve done your best. Please go home.’”
