Rivers ADC Appoints Ex-Senator Uchendu to Lead Governorship Campaign

Full Story
The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially introduced the leadership and organizational structure of its Governorship Campaign Council, set to contest the 2027 general elections. According to the party, this council is a diverse assembly of political stalwarts, seasoned professionals, community mobilizers, women, youth, and various other stakeholders. These individuals have been assigned distinct roles in overseeing and managing campaign activities across all 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, the Rivers State ADC Chairman, formally announced this development in a statement he personally signed and released in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. Dimkpa extended his congratulations to Senator Andrew Uchendu, who has been designated as the Chairman of the Campaign Council. He also felicitated with Chimbiko Akarolo, a former Chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, on his appointment as the Council’s Director-General.
Senator Uchendu, who previously served as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, is recognized as a close associate of former Rivers State Governor and the ADC’s Vice Presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi. The list of other key appointments includes Vice Chairmen, Deputy Directors-General, various Directorate leaders, and Department Heads.
The statement emphasized that, “Every appointment carries a responsibility to serve with dedication, discipline, integrity, mutual respect and accountability.” Dr. Dimkpa further indicated that the comprehensive list of members for the 12 Directorates would be released incrementally, with two directorates unveiled daily, commencing on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. He advised those whose names were not part of the initial leadership announcement to anticipate the publication of their respective directorates.
Finally, Dimkpa urged all newly appointed officials to view their roles as a commitment to public service and to collaborate effectively within the established framework of the Campaign Council. He charged both party members and the council to remain steadfast in pursuing "the vision of building the Rivers we deserve.”
