To mark the significant 30th anniversary of Zamfara State's establishment, Governor Dauda Lawal officially inaugurated the newly refurbished JB Yakubu Secretariat situated in Gusau. A press release issued by the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, confirmed that the commissioning ceremony occurred on Friday, with details shared via PUNCH Online.

Dignitaries present at the occasion included former state governors Ahmad Yarima and Mahmud Shinkafi. Notably, Colonel Jibril Bala Yakubu (retd.), who served as the state's pioneer Military Administrator and is also the Emir of Wuse, participated alongside Governor Lawal in the unveiling. The event was particularly significant as Colonel Yakubu, who originally oversaw the construction of the secretariat in 1997, returned to formally commission Phase 3 of its extensive remodelling at the same building.

During his address at the ceremony, Colonel Yakubu expressed his astonishment at the transformation, stating he barely recognized the secretariat due to the numerous alterations. He remarked, “When I came here, I could no longer recognise anything. The whole state has changed drastically, and Dr Dauda Lawal has done a great work. I want all stakeholders to embrace peace, and after peace we need unity. Unity will build the state to a more enviable height. I urge all the people of Zamfara to support Governor Lawal on his rebuilding agenda and also work in unity. This commissioning brings back memories. I was in detention when this secretariat was first commissioned, and coming here to commission a building named after me while still in good health and wealth brings joy to my heart.”

In his own remarks, Governor Lawal extended gratitude to all past governors and the pioneering Military Administrator for their dedication and sacrifices in fostering Zamfara's viability. He assured them of his commitment to building upon their collective groundwork.

Governor Lawal emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “We will continue to ensure development in all aspects and this project commissioning is significant because workers can work in good conditions and render quality services to the people of Zamfara. We will continue to invest in infrastructure to ensure the state opens up for my capital projects and improved investment.”

Following the formal proceedings, the invited guests, comprising all former governors, members from both the National and State Assemblies, and other dignitaries, were led on a guided tour of the renovated facility to inspect the completed work.
