Borno APC Guber Hopeful Gubio's Convoy Hit by Boko Haram Landmine

Full Story
Suspected Boko Haram militants launched an attack on the convoy of Engr. Mustapha Gubio, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Borno State. The ambush, as reported by DailyTrust, happened on the evening of Thursday, September 3, while the candidate and his team were making their way back to Maiduguri. They had just concluded a thank-you visit to Damasak, a border community situated approximately 190 kilometers from the state capital.
According to an anonymous security source, the insurgents had strategically planted landmines along the Gubio-Kareto-Damasak highway. Tragically, a police armoured vehicle, which was at the forefront of the convoy, detonated one of these explosive devices, triggering a powerful blast. The source recounted the incident, stating, "We entered Damasak safely and spent about 40 minutes there. On our way back, the insurgents planted mines on the road, and the armoured vehicle that led the convoy drove over it and exploded."
Following the explosion, the terr*rists immediately attempted to launch a direct assault on the convoy. However, a joint force of courageous security operatives, including personnel from the military, police, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), quickly engaged the attackers. A fierce gun battle ensued, with the security forces successfully repelling the ambush. While the main convoy was safeguarded from further damage or casualties, the police armoured vehicle sustained extensive destruction due to the bomb blast.
