Kashim Shettima Requests No Public Fanfare for His 60th Birthday

Full Story
Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged his friends, associates, and well-wishers to refrain from organizing public celebrations or placing congratulatory advertisements to mark his upcoming 60th birthday on September 2, 2026. The Vice President conveyed this appeal through a statement released on Saturday, August 29, 2026, by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
Shettima emphasized his preference for a low-key observance of the milestone, stating that national development should remain the primary focus of public attention, rather than personal festivities. He articulated this sentiment, saying, “To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms.” He further explained that his decision stems from his conviction that “public attention should remain focused on the serious work of national development rather than on personal celebrations.”
Instead of elaborate events or paid media placements, the Vice President encouraged those who wish him well to channel their goodwill into prayers for Nigeria and the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He specifically called for supplications for “the success of the administration’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to the nation’s security challenges, greater national unity, and the peace and prosperity of all Nigerians.”
According to Shettima, his birthday should serve as an occasion for introspection on the country's progress and a renewed dedication to its growth. The statement concluded, stating, “For VP Shettima, the occasion should serve less as a celebration of a personal milestone and more as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to the service of the country.”
