Ekiti's Oyebanji Reinstates Titilayo Olayinka as Accountant-General Post-Retirement

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has given his approval for Mrs. Titilayo Olayinka to take on the role of the state's Accountant General once more. This significant appointment, which was announced on Tuesday and became effective immediately, comes barely a day after Mrs. Olayinka officially retired from the State Civil Service as Accountant General/Permanent Secretary, having reached the mandatory retirement age of 60.

According to a statement released in Ado Ekiti by Mr. Yinka Oyebode, the Governor's Special Adviser on Media, Ekiti State is now among other Nigerian states like Enugu, Osun, and Akwa Ibom, which have chosen to re-engage experienced, retired accountant generals to lead this crucial state office. In contrast, states such as Kwara, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, and Katsina have opted to bring in professionals from outside the civil service to fill their respective Accountant General positions.

Mr. Oyebode highlighted Mrs. Olayinka's distinguished service as the state's Accountant General from November 28, 2019, until August 24, 2026. Her reappointment, he noted, underlines Governor Oyebanji's commitment to placing highly competent individuals in strategic roles, particularly as plans for his second term administration gain momentum. The media adviser further stated that the newly re-appointed Accountant General is expected to bring a wealth of expertise in areas like accounting, auditing, project management, expenditure control, and procurement to her renewed assignment.

Furthermore, Mr. Oyebode added that Governor Oyebanji has tasked Mrs. Olayinka with developing a comprehensive training initiative for accountants across the State Civil Service, with the goal of boosting their professional capabilities. Mrs. Olayinka is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration, complemented by extensive experience across the private sector, public sector, and international development organizations.

She is widely acknowledged for her crucial contributions to Ekiti State's enhanced performance in accountability, transparency, and fiscal management over the last six years. These efforts have led to positive outcomes recognized by respected bodies and institutions. Among these accolades, Ekiti State secured the top position in the BudgIT State Fiscal Transparency League for Q2, Q3, and Q4 of 2024, as well as Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 of 2025. The state was also identified as one of the leading states in both local government budget transparency and the Subnational Audit Efficacy Index by PLSI. Additionally, Ekiti was ranked among the top 10 states nationally for publishing detailed and easily accessible budget information for all its Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). These recognitions, Mr. Oyebode emphasized, are a testament to strong competence, transparency, effective auditing processes, and prudent financial stewardship.

In congratulating Mrs. Olayinka on her reappointment, Governor Oyebanji urged her to continue serving the state with even greater distinction and unwavering dedication. He also expressed his appreciation for her previous exemplary service to Ekiti State.
