Sheik Jingir Dismisses Anti-Christian Allegations, Urges Tinubu Towards Fair Governance

Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, who chairs Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), has refuted claims accusing him of animosity towards Christians, labeling such accusations as fabrications and misinterpretations of his recent pronouncements. The prominent Islamic scholar had previously drawn public criticism for remarks made during a mass wedding ceremony organized by the Kano State government for 1,500 couples, which many perceived as promoting religious division.

During a national symposium held in Jos, titled "Enhanced Political Participation and Social Justice as a Panacea for Unity and Development in Nigeria," Sheikh Jingir clarified the intent behind his statements. He asserted that his comments were never meant to convey hatred towards Christians or individuals of other faiths. “A lot of people are saying I dislike Christians. I didn’t say I dislike Christians—it is a lie. My remarks were misinterpreted. Leadership in Islam is not about cheating people of different faiths. Islam teaches us to share love with people of different faiths or sects,” he stated.

Jingir stressed that the tenets of Islam demand impartiality and justice for all, irrespective of their religious beliefs. He warned that Muslims would be held accountable for any form of injustice perpetrated against non-Muslims. Citing Prophet Muhammad's peaceful coexistence with people from diverse faiths, the cleric encouraged all Nigerians to cultivate an environment of harmony and mutual respect.

Furthermore, Sheikh Jingir appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with state governors and other political officeholders, to uphold equity in their leadership. He specifically urged them to avoid favoritism or discrimination. “I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to cheat non-Muslims and Muslims alike. I also call on you not to cheat those who are not in the same political party with you. You should lead with justice and fairness to all Nigerians,” he declared.

The cleric also affirmed every citizen's constitutional right to freely choose and vote for any candidate during elections. “Everyone has the right to vote for whoever he feels is okay with him to vote for during an election,” Jingir emphasized, concluding his address with a strong plea for national unity, warning that true development cannot flourish amidst instability and disunity.
