Kebbi Governor's Labour Expertise Key to Tinubu's 2027 Campaign Role, Says Aide

Abdullahi Idris, the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor of Kebbi State, has lauded the selection of Governor Nasir Idris to lead the Directorate of Labour Union Relations for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 Campaign Council, describing it as both strategic and well-deserved. In a press statement released to journalists on Sunday, Mr. Idris emphasized that the governor's extensive background in organized labour, coupled with his significant political influence, renders him exceptionally qualified for this crucial assignment.

Abdullahi Idris characterized the appointment as “a clear case of putting a round peg in a round hole.” He further elaborated that “Comrade Governor Idris brings decades of labour leadership experience to this responsibility,” citing his past roles as Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers at both local and state levels, National Treasurer and President of the NUT, and subsequently, Deputy National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

The aide highlighted Governor Idris's significant contributions to the labour movement, which include pivotal reforms such as the extension of teachers' retirement age from 60 to 65 years and their years of service from 35 to 40 years. He also pointed out the governor's proven capability in mediating discussions between governmental bodies and labour unions during periods of industrial unrest. “His capacity to build bridges between government and organised labour has been repeatedly demonstrated. His role in resolving labour disputes has also been acknowledged by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris,” he stated.

Furthermore, the governor's special adviser revealed that numerous influential labour figures, both current and former, frequently consult Governor Idris on critical national labour issues. He quoted, “Comrades Abdulwaheed Ibrahim Umar, Ayuba Wabba, Joe Ajaero and Audu Titus Amba, among other labour leaders, have consistently consulted with Governor Idris in Birnin Kebbi on issues concerning the labour movement and national development.”

Shifting to politics, Abdullahi Idris noted that Governor Idris has significantly fortified the All Progressives Congress (APC) within Kebbi State. This was achieved through continuous mobilization efforts and the reconciliation of key stakeholders. He affirmed, “The governor has successfully galvanised APC members and stakeholders across Kebbi State, including those who contested elections on other platforms and subsequently returned to the party.”

Abdullahi Idris also reminded the public that Governor Idris was the pioneering state governor to publicly endorse President Tinubu for a second term during an APC zonal gathering held in Kaduna. “His early and unequivocal endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term demonstrates his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and the leadership of the President,” he remarked.

Concluding his statement, Abdullahi Idris conveyed his strong belief that Governor Idris's extensive experience in both labour and political spheres would be invaluable to the campaign council. He expressed optimism, stating, “Insha Allah, his appointment will deliver the desired results for the Renewed Hope Agenda and contribute significantly to the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.”
