Ijumu APC Boss Dies Suddenly at Kogi Peace Meeting

Full Story
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State has been plunged into mourning following the sudden demise of its chairman, Mr. Oyewole Mayowa Solomon. Reports indicate that Solomon tragically collapsed on Friday, August 21, while attending a crucial party reconciliation meeting held in Iyara, the administrative headquarters of the local government.
Sources revealed that the gathering was specifically convened to address lingering internal disputes and foster unity among various APC stakeholders within the area. Although medical assistance was provided at the venue, Mr. Solomon was subsequently rushed to a hospital situated in Kabba, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival.
The reconciliation initiative was spearheaded by former Ijumu LGA chairman, Funsho Olumoko, in a concerted effort to resolve factional disagreements and pave the way for smoother political engagements in the future. It was gathered that an earlier attempt at reconciliation had ended inconclusively, marred by an alleged leadership tussle within the local APC chapter, which reportedly led to Mr. Solomon and several other party stalwarts, including senior government officials, walking out of the session.
The subsequent meeting on Friday, which ended tragically, was designed to bring together a broad spectrum of party members, including political leaders, executives from local government and ward levels, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees representing all fifteen wards of Ijumu.
News of Solomon's death has elicited heartfelt tributes from federal legislators representing the constituency. Senator Sunday Karimi, who serves the Kogi West Senatorial District, and Hon. Salman Idris, representing the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, both offered their condolences. They eulogized Solomon as a dedicated party member, a committed grassroots mobilizer, and a significant contributor to the growth of the APC in Ijumu and the wider Kogi West region.
Senator Karimi specifically remarked, “He was a bridge builder, a man of peace, and a grassroots politician who believed in the ideals of the APC. His commitment, dedication and loyalty to the party were exemplary. His death is a painful loss not only to his immediate family and Ijumu LGA, but to the entire APC family in Kogi State.”
As of now, the precise details surrounding the circumstances of Mr. Solomon's passing have not been independently verified.
