Nigeria Clarifies Kuwait Domestic Worker Recruitment Status

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has come out to refute claims that the Kuwaiti government has recently placed a ban on the employment of Nigerian domestic workers. According to a press statement released by the ministry's spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the suspension of recruitment and deployment of domestic workers to Kuwait was actually initiated by the Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait City several years ago. This move was made to address concerns regarding the welfare, protection, and working conditions of Nigerian domestic workers in Kuwait. The ministry emphasized that this is not a new development but rather a continuation of measures put in place by the Nigerian Embassy to safeguard the rights and dignity of its citizens working abroad. The statement further clarified that both Nigeria and Kuwait are committed to engaging in diplomatic discussions to establish a framework that ensures fair recruitment practices and improved working conditions for Nigerian workers. The ministry cautioned the public to verify information through official channels before dissemination to avoid spreading misinformation that could cause undue concern among Nigerians in Kuwait and their families. The Nigerian government and Kuwait will continue to work together to find mutually beneficial solutions for labor and migration issues, focusing on the protection of Nigerian workers' rights and the promotion of decent working conditions.
