A dramatic scene unfolded in the Senate on Thursday as Senator Adams Oshiomhole accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of violating a truce they had agreed upon. The disagreement arose during a discussion on a motion regarding the non-compliance of government-owned enterprises and ministries with Senate invitations. Oshiomhole claimed that Akpabio had breached their agreement by referencing a past controversy involving him. Akpabio had made a comment about a viral video that purportedly showed Oshiomhole massaging a woman's legs on a private jet, which Oshiomhole had previously dismissed as fake. Oshiomhole reminded Akpabio of their truce, stating that they had agreed to put an end to hostilities and avoid referencing past issues. Akpabio apologized for his comment, acknowledging the truce and assuring Oshiomhole that he would avoid making similar references in the future. The Senate President described Oshiomhole as his brother, friend, and colleague, and expressed his commitment to protecting all senators. The exchange occurred during a discussion on a motion sponsored by Senator Sani Musa, which focused on the refusal of some agencies to honor Senate invitations. The motion aimed to compel these agencies to comply with Senate oversight responsibilities. Senator Ogoshi Onawo contributed to the discussion, citing the Constitution's empowerment of the Senate to issue warrants and exercise its constitutional powers to compel attendance. Akpabio assured the Senate that it would no longer tolerate agencies disregarding its invitations and would invoke its constitutional powers when necessary. The Senate President also joked about not behaving like countries that break agreements shortly after signing them, drawing laughter from the chamber.
