Pentecostal Fellowship Rejects APC's Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket Ahead of 2027 Elections

As the 2027 general elections draw near, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has made its stance clear on the recent development in the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket. Following the APC's decision to field President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, both Muslims, for the presidential election, the PFN has reiterated its commitment to the unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria. The Christian body emphasized that Nigeria is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation, and as such, its leadership should reflect this diversity.

The PFN, after its National Executive Council meeting, released a statement expressing its opposition to the adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for elective public office. According to the statement, 'the PFN does not support the adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for elective public office. Nigeria is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation whose diversity should be reflected in its leadership. Inclusive governance promotes national unity, mutual trust, and a sense of belonging among all citizens.'

The fellowship also addressed proposed legislation regarding preaching restrictions, expressing firm opposition to policies that curtail religious freedom. 'We strongly oppose any law or policy that seeks to ban or unduly restrict Christian preaching,' the statement read. The PFN noted that such measures are inconsistent with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which guarantees every citizen the freedom of thought, conscience, religion, expression, and peaceful assembly.

The group urged Christians across the country to remain peaceful, prayerful, law-abiding, and steadfast, while exercising their constitutional rights responsibly. The PFN also encouraged sincere dialogue among government, religious leaders, and civil society in addressing issues capable of threatening national cohesion. The fellowship remains committed to praying for the nation and working with all stakeholders to build a peaceful, just, and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen enjoys equal protection under the law.
