In a recent interview with TVC News, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola revealed that he has chosen to offer his advice to President Bola Tinubu in private, rather than publicly criticizing the administration on television. This approach, Fashola explained, is based on his direct access to the President, who has sought his input on areas needing improvement ahead of the 2027 elections. According to Fashola, the President has personally reached out to him, asking for his views on where the administration can enhance its performance. Fashola stated, 'He calls me today, and he says, “Today, identify one area where my administration must improve as we count down to 2027. What would you advise me?” So, I will speak to the President on TV? I’ve told myself I would not do that.' The former Minister of Works and Housing emphasized the importance of maintaining a private channel of communication with the President, noting that he has already advised him on several matters. Fashola dismissed the notion that the administration has blind spots after three years in office, saying, 'There are no blind spots in this administration. You can’t be shouting at somebody whose ear you have.' He also reiterated his lack of interest in running for the presidency, simply stating 'No' when asked if he would contest. Fashola reflected on his over two decades in public service, describing it as an 'unimaginable privilege' that he hopes will inspire future generations of Nigerians. As a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, Fashola distinguished between offering advice and interfering in government, saying, 'There is a thin line between intervention and interference.'
