Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has come out to debunk claims that he publicly supported the Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 general elections. The rapper made this clarification during his appearance on Prime Time on Arise Television, where he stated that he has never endorsed any politician or political party. According to Falz, his primary focus has been on encouraging Nigerians to participate in the electoral process, rather than backing a specific candidate. He explained that his reservations about the country's political class have led him to maintain a neutral stance, saying, 'Just a point of correction: I've never, in 2023 or at any point, openly supported any politician or political party. I've only actively encouraged people to go out to vote and let their intentions be known. What I clamour for is a free and fair democratic process.' Falz attributed his decision to the fact that Nigeria's political landscape has remained relatively unchanged over the years, with the same set of individuals repeatedly occupying the political space. He noted that it is challenging to vouch for any Nigerian politician, given the current state of the country's politics. Despite his reservations, Falz did not rule out the possibility of supporting a candidate in the future, provided that the individual earns his complete confidence. He urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to participate actively in the 2027 general elections, arguing that a large voter turnout would make it more difficult to manipulate election outcomes. As one of Nigeria's most vocal entertainers on issues of governance and civic responsibility, Falz has consistently used his music and public platforms to advocate for democratic participation and demand better leadership.
