Sowore Cries Out Over Alleged Government Persecution, Family Tragedy

Renowned activist Omoyele Sowore has come out with startling allegations of persecution by the government. In a statement released on July 13, 2026, via his official page, Sowore detailed a series of actions he believes were orchestrated by the authorities to silence him. These include his expulsion from the University of Lagos not once, but twice, as well as the seizure of his National Youth Service Corps certificate. Furthermore, Sowore claimed that his international passport has been repeatedly confiscated, leading to extended periods of separation from his family. According to him, the government has employed various tactics, including court orders and the use of security agencies, to prevent him from traveling. Sowore's allegations also extend to personal sufferings, including imprisonment, prosecution, assault, and harassment. He further stated that his family and associates have not been spared, with a particularly painful mention of the murder of his brother. Despite these challenges, Sowore affirmed that his resolve remains unbroken. 'They targeted my education, resulting in my expulsion from the University of Lagos twice. They seized my NYSC certificate, hoping I would never secure employment after graduation,' he explained. He also stated, 'They have repeatedly confiscated my travel documents, especially my international passport, keeping me separated from my family for extended periods.' In a defiant tone, Sowore declared, 'They have imprisoned me, prosecuted me, assaulted me, shot at me, harassed those around me, murdered my brother, and tried to break my resolve.' However, he vowed that these acts of persecution have not weakened his conviction, saying, 'But they have failed. Persecution cannot defeat conviction, and these acts will not delay their day of judgment.'
