Ogun Disability Association Unites, Seeks Stronger Ties with INEC Ahead of 2027 Polls

The newly elected Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities in Ogun State, Mr Ayo Awobona, has outlined his administration's key objectives, with a strong emphasis on fostering unity among members and deepening collaboration with government institutions and the private sector. In his first interaction with journalists in Abeokuta, Awobona stressed that unity is crucial for the association to achieve its goals, including the implementation of the Ogun State Disability Law. He noted that internal disagreements within two clusters of the association are being addressed, expressing optimism that the issues will be resolved through dialogue. Awobona also disclosed plans to engage with government agencies, public and private organisations, and the general public to promote a better understanding of the challenges and capabilities of persons with disabilities. As the 2027 general elections approach, the association is seeking to increase voter registration and participation among its members, with Awobona calling for greater political inclusion of persons with disabilities. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its participation in the association's election, noting that the commission enlightened members on measures to make the electoral process more accessible. Awobona plans to seek INEC's support in organising decentralised Permanent Voter Card registration exercises in communities with large populations of persons with disabilities, to ease the registration process for members.
