INEC Records Over 2.4 Million New Registrations, Youths Lead in Voter Enrollment

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the latest figures from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, revealing that a total of 2,436,275 eligible Nigerians have successfully registered. This data, which covers both online and physical registrations completed as of July 10, 2026, indicates a significant milestone in the electoral process. Notably, the CVR exercise has been temporarily suspended in Osun State due to the upcoming governorship election, in accordance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022. The preliminary data, which is subject to cleanup and verification through the Automated Biodata Identification System (ABIS), shows that 823,324 individuals completed their registrations online, while 1,612,951 registrations were completed physically across the country. A breakdown of the registrants by gender reveals that 1,278,444 females, representing 52.48 percent, and 1,157,831 males, accounting for 47.52 percent, have completed their registrations. The age distribution of the registrants indicates a strong participation of youths, with 1,644,885 individuals between the ages of 18 and 34, representing 67.52 percent of the total. Middle-aged Nigerians, between 35 and 49 years, accounted for 527,882 registrations, or 21.67 percent, while 240,816 elderly individuals, aged 50 to 69, registered, representing 9.88 percent. The data also shows that 22,692 registrations, or 0.93 percent, were from individuals aged 70 and above. Furthermore, the occupational distribution of the registrants reveals that 576,682 students, representing 23.67 percent, have registered, followed by 513,004 business owners, accounting for 21.06 percent. Farmers and fishermen recorded 417,806 registrations, or 17.15 percent, while housewives accounted for 389,841 registrations, representing 16 percent. Artisans, traders, civil servants, and public servants also registered in significant numbers, with 123,063, 108,785, 62,012, and 38,803 registrations, respectively. Additionally, 25,649 Persons Living With Disabilities completed their registrations. The state-by-state breakdown shows that Kano recorded the highest number of registrations, with 182,749, followed by Edo, Lagos, Delta, and Taraba, with 121,554, 114,983, 108,547, and 94,432 registrations, respectively. Other states, including Sokoto, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Ogun, Anambra, Oyo, and Imo, also recorded significant numbers of registrations, ranging from 70,087 to over 91,000.
