Akpabio Vows to Take Contractor to Court Over Faulty National Assembly Microphones

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed his disappointment and frustration over the persistent technical issues with the microphones in the National Assembly chambers. During a plenary session on Wednesday, Akpabio threatened to take legal action against the contractor responsible for the renovation of the complex, citing the recurring problems with the microphones as an embarrassment to the legislature and the nation. He stated, 'Distinguished colleagues, I hope you are taking note of the fact that our microphones are not working well. You are taking note of it because I intend to take action.' Akpabio recalled a similar experience at the House of Representatives the previous day, where he and the Speaker were embarrassed by the faulty microphones. The same contractor handled the renovation of both chambers. Akpabio warned that the National Assembly would not hesitate to explore legal options if the contractor failed to rectify the defects, saying, 'If this continues, we have steps we can take legally to ensure that a good job is done because this is an embarrassment to our nation.' He urged senators to take note of the situation, adding that any future action against the contractor would be based on the recurring failures witnessed during plenary. 'I hope you are taking note of it so that when they go to social media to start complaining after we have taken action, you will know why we took the action. You are all witnessing what is going on now,' he said.
