Nigeria's former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has conveyed his deepest sympathies to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Lagos State, regarding the recent passing of his mother, Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour.

In a message shared on Monday, Mr. Abubakar described the late Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour as the "beloved mother" of the ADC candidate and offered prayers for her eternal rest. He stated, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, beloved mother of the ADC Governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour."

Atiku extended his condolences to Rhodes-Vivour, his entire family, and all those grieving her loss, acknowledging that "no words can truly ease the pain of losing a loved one." He further prayed, "the Almighty God grants her eternal mercy, forgives her shortcomings, and comforts the family with the strength and patience to bear this profound loss. May her soul rest in perfect peace."

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour had earlier announced his mother’s death on Monday via a post on his X handle. He fondly remembered her as "a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother" and "the epitome of love." A memorial flyer accompanying the announcement, signed by his brother Olawale Rhodes-Vivour on behalf of the family, honored the late matriarch as a woman whose boundless love and kindness significantly influenced everyone around her, noting, "Though she is gone from our sight, she is never gone from our hearts."

The condolence message from the former Vice President joins a growing number of sympathies pouring in for Rhodes-Vivour, a prominent opposition figure and the ADC’s gubernatorial flagbearer in Lagos, since the announcement of his mother's passing.
