Several communities within the Calabar metropolis, such as Ikot Awatim, Ikot Ansa, Calabar South, Mbukpa, Big Qua Town, Ibom Layout, and 8 Miles, bore the brunt of the calamity.
During his tour of the severely impacted areas on Sunday, Governor Otu articulated his deep distress. He emphasized the government's resolve to bolster its flood mitigation and emergency response systems. "As a government, we remain committed to taking decisive and proactive measures to reduce the risk of such disasters and to strengthen our flood mitigation and emergency response systems," the Governor affirmed.
He elaborated that efforts are already underway to develop sustainable, long-term solutions. These include enhancing drainage infrastructure and improving environmental management practices, all aimed at safeguarding communities from future flooding events. Governor Otu declared, "While we cannot undo the pain of this moment, we can, and we will do everything within our power to prevent a recurrence."
The Governor encouraged affected residents to remain hopeful, promising ongoing governmental support as they strive to rebuild their lives and restore normalcy. "To every affected resident, please know that you are not alone. Your government stands with you and will continue to provide the necessary support as we work together to rebuild lives, restore hope, and implement responsible, long-term solutions," he stated.
