Nigeria's Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has conveyed his deep sadness regarding the passing of Alhaji Sagir Balarabe, the Special Adviser and Focal Person for Human Capital Development in Kaduna State. Shettima described Balarabe’s demise as a substantial blow to the country's human capital development sector.
Alhaji Balarabe, who also chaired the North-West Focal Persons Forum, died on Sunday following a period of illness. In a personal statement released on Monday, Vice President Shettima, who leads the Steering Committee for the National Human Capital Development Programme 2.0, lauded the late adviser as a selfless and patriotic leader dedicated to enhancing the well-being of Nigerians.
“Alhaji Sagir Balarabe was a man who understood that the true wealth of any nation lies in its people. He worked tirelessly to ensure that policies and programmes translated into real impact in the lives of citizens,” the Vice President affirmed. Shettima added that Balarabe’s contributions to the Human Capital Development agenda would serve as a lasting reference for effective public service and leadership. He further stated, “His commitment, humility, and passion for building people will continue to inspire all of us working to strengthen human capital outcomes across Nigeria.”
Joining in the tributes, Rukaiya El-Rufai, the National Coordinator of Human Capital Development 2.0, also mourned Balarabe, recognizing him as a devoted public servant, a man of profound faith, and a pivotal bridge-builder. She noted that his efforts significantly advanced the Human Capital Development agenda throughout Kaduna State and the entire North-West region. According to El-Rufai, the late adviser considered investing in individuals a personal mission and maintained a strong zeal for nurturing human potential throughout his professional life.
“He was a man who considered investing in people a personal responsibility. His passion for developing human potential defined both his work and personal engagements,” she remarked. El-Rufai highlighted Balarabe’s widespread respect, attributed to his humility, intellectual depth, and readiness to mentor others, especially emerging leaders within the Human Capital Development sphere. She concluded that his initiatives to foster inter-state collaboration and establish effective Human Capital Development frameworks would continue to influence development outcomes across the region. The HCD National Coordinator extended her heartfelt condolences to the Kaduna State Government, the grieving family, and members of the Human Capital Development community, praying for eternal rest for Balarabe and comfort for those he left behind.
