Former President Buhari's First Death Anniversary: Prayers Scheduled for Monday

Bashir Ahmad, who served as a media aide to the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has announced plans for a special prayer and remembrance gathering. This event is set to commemorate the first anniversary of the former leader's passing.
Taking to his official X page on Tuesday, Ahmad disclosed that the solemn occasion would take place on Monday, July 13. The purpose, he stated, is to pay tribute to Buhari's life, his enduring legacy, and the years he dedicated to serving Nigeria. Ahmad penned, “On Monday, July 13th, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing.”
He further described the late former president as a leader who committed his life to the nation with profound 'commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism.' Ahmad emphasized that Buhari's significant contributions to Nigeria's development would forever be etched in the country's historical records. The gathering is expected to bring together family members, friends, political associates, and other Nigerians for prayers and reflection. Special prayers will be offered, asking Allah to forgive Buhari's shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus (the highest level of paradise), and continue to console his loved ones and the entire nation. Ahmad concluded his statement with, “May Allah grant him eternal rest. Ameen.”
Former President Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82. He died in a London clinic following a protracted illness. His remains were subsequently repatriated to Nigeria and laid to rest in his ancestral home of Daura, located in Katsina State.
Buhari served as Nigeria's democratically elected President from May 29, 2015, until May 29, 2023. He made history in 2015 by becoming the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president in Nigeria's political landscape. He secured re-election in 2019 and successfully completed his second term in office in 2023. This upcoming remembrance event, marking one year since his demise, is anticipated to offer an opportunity for his family, former aides, political allies, and supporters to reflect on his leadership, legacy, and indelible mark on Nigeria’s political narrative.
