Lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi has received the backing of the Ijesa North Traditional Rulers’ Council, situated in Osun State’s Oriade Local Government Area, for his 2027 House of Representatives bid. A press statement released to Sunday PUNCH on Friday confirmed this endorsement, which took place during a town hall gathering at the council’s Iloko-Ijesa headquarters on Thursday. The event saw the attendance of traditional rulers, community leaders, local residents, Olajengbesi, and his spouse. Olajengbesi is seeking the legislative seat under the banner of the Accord Party.

The council, under the leadership of Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, the Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa, reportedly conveyed its conviction in Olajengbesi’s capacity to provide robust representation for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency within the National Assembly, should he be elected. Representing the council, Oba Ayelabola Oladoyinbo, the Olowena of Owena-Ijesa, offered blessings for both the aspirant and his wife, while formally announcing their support for his campaign. Oba Oladoyinbo was quoted as saying, “Your aspiration for the House of Representatives in the 2027 election is a done deal. We believe you have what it takes to excel, and you will excel and make us proud.”

Mr. Olajengbesi, a native of Ijebu-Ijesa within Oriade Local Government Area, currently serves as the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, which supported the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke. Furthermore, he is the convener of the Imole Grassroots Mobilisation Network across the state. The legal professional, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in August, had previously vied for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency position in 2019. He is now challenging the long-serving incumbent, Wole Oke of the All Progressives Congress, who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives for an extensive 24-year period.

During his address to the assembled community, Olajengbesi articulated that the constituency is in need of dynamic youth representation and a shift away from what he termed as the continuous re-circulation of outdated concepts. He committed to delivering impactful representation and initiating programs aimed at fostering development throughout the constituency, should he emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.
