Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election body, the Imole Campaign Council, on Saturday issued a challenge to Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan. The council called for the public release of comprehensive details concerning the confession of Olamilekan Oriyomi, a suspect apprehended in connection with the alleged assassination attempt on Mr. Wole Oke, the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council.

In a press statement endorsed by Bamidele Salam, who chairs its Media Committee, the council explicitly requested the full video footage of Oriyomi's media parade. The statement highlighted the urgency of this demand, noting, "This challenge has become imperative in view of very credible intelligence available to our Campaign Council suggesting that the narrative being forcefully pushed by the Osun State Police Command is riddled with disturbing inconsistencies which deserve urgent public scrutiny."

The council further asserted, "If the Osun State Police Command has absolutely nothing to hide, Mr Ibrahim Gotan should have no difficulty whatsoever releasing the complete and unedited video footage of that press briefing, just as we have with some recently arrested suspects of political violence, for Nigerians, members of the media, civil society organisations and independent observers to examine." The Imole Campaign Council cautioned that any attempt to withhold parts of the press briefing could fuel public suspicion that the Police Command might be concealing crucial facts regarding the incident.

Moreover, the council declared, "If the CP refuses to meet the demand of the council, we call on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, to immediately constitute an independent investigative team to probe the matter." Efforts to get a reaction from the Osun Police Command's spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, proved unsuccessful at the time of this report. He had not responded to a WhatsApp message and could not be reached on his mobile phone.

The State Police Command had, on Thursday, presented a Disc Jockey named Olalekan Oriyomi along with two other individuals to the media. They were paraded in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate Mr. Oluwole Oke, the Director-General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, in Ipetu Ijesa. The other suspects paraded alongside Oriyomi were identified as Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31. Authorities also reported the recovery of an English Beretta pistol, loaded with four live rounds of ammunition, from one of the apprehended individuals. According to Abiodun Ojelabi, the Osun Police Command spokesperson, the suspects were nabbed during an intelligence-led operation, thwarting their alleged assassination attempt before it could be executed.
