The Federal Ministry of Works has declared a prohibition against commercial motorcycles and tricycles operating on the newly constructed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. This new directive, scheduled to commence within the current week, was officially communicated on Sunday by Mr. Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State.

Mr. Dare elucidated that the primary rationale behind this decision is 'to protect the newly constructed superhighway from misuse and deterioration.' He further elaborated that these preventative measures are crucial for safeguarding the road and guaranteeing its durability and viability over an extended period.

Additionally, the Federal Controller issued a stern caution against the arbitrary parking of heavy-duty trucks and articulated vehicles, stating that such practices would no longer be tolerated. He specified that 'the restriction applies to the coastal highway and all bridges across Lagos State.'

The ministry also outlawed the 'indiscriminate disposal of refuse along highway corridors,' condemning this habit as entirely unacceptable. Dare emphasized that rigorous enforcement actions would be taken against any violators as the authorities strive to uphold public order. He revealed that appropriate signages detailing these new restrictions have already been erected along the highway. Furthermore, he stated that personnel from a dedicated task force would be stationed at key points to monitor and ensure adherence.

He characterized the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a 'world-class infrastructure' that demands diligent upkeep and safeguarding. The official appealed to all road users to adhere to these directives, underscoring their importance for collective safety. He concluded by asserting that preserving this vital facility would significantly extend its operational life and sustain its immense benefit to the Nigerian populace.
