Ekiti Polls: Governor Oyebanji Eyes More Than Half Million Votes

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flagbearer, voiced his strong belief in securing more than half a million votes in the state's Saturday election. Governor Oyebanji made these remarks shortly after casting his ballot at approximately 11:38 am, accompanied by his wife, Olayemi, at Ward 06, Unit 03, Okelele, Ikogosi Ekiti.
He further lauded the impressive voter turnout, attributing the significant participation to citizens' understanding of the crucial connection between effective governance and the future trajectory of Ekiti State. When questioned about the APC's ability to achieve its ambitious target of 500,000 votes, Oyebanji responded, “We should, if the processes work well, and everybody votes, we should cross that line. That’s what I’m saying here today. I have no idea about that.” The APC had previously communicated its aim during the campaign period to not only win the election but also to ensure the governor secured at least 500,000 votes.
Addressing the general conduct of the election, Governor Oyebanji stated, “Everything’s going on well. Definitely, I am satisfied. But I need to also appeal to our people to be patient with INEC. With all processes, there will be glitches. INEC has assured me, and I believe them, that all those glitches will be attended to. So I appeal to our people to exercise patience.” He further emphasized that the electoral body had given assurances that no eligible voter would be disenfranchised, promising that everyone who showed up would have the opportunity to vote. He urged citizens to cooperate with INEC, offer encouragement, and maintain patience throughout the exercise.
