Trump's Name Wiped Off Washington's Kennedy Center

In a dramatic turn of events, the name of United States President, Donald Trump, has been removed from the facade of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. This move follows a federal judge's ruling that declared the renaming of the center after Trump as unlawful. According to the center's Executive Director, Matt Floca, all physical signs bearing Trump's name have been taken down from the building and its grounds. The removal process began on Saturday, with workers covering the exterior sign with a white tarp and using loud machinery to dismantle the signage. The development is a significant setback for Trump's efforts to leave his mark on official spaces, a move that has been seen as a departure from traditional American political norms. The judge's ruling was made after the center's board attempted to halt the removal process, but was rejected. The removal of Trump's name is also a culmination of a series of events that began when the center's governing board, which is stacked with Trump's loyalists, voted to rename the venue the 'Trump Kennedy Center' in December. Several artists had canceled their scheduled performances at the center in protest of the renaming. The Trump administration has also been seeking to place Trump's image on a $250 bill to commemorate the country's 250th anniversary of independence from Britain. The removal of Trump's name from the Kennedy Center is seen as a major blow to his efforts to leave a lasting legacy. US District Judge Christopher Cooper had given the administration 14 days to remove Trump's name from the center, following his May 29 ruling that the renaming was unlawful. The judge also blocked Trump's demand to close the center for two years of renovations, which was scheduled to begin in July. In response to the ruling, Trump announced that he was giving up control of the venue, which he had seized at the start of his second term last year. The removal of Trump's name from the Kennedy Center has been seen as a victory for those who opposed the renaming, and a significant blow to Trump's efforts to leave his mark on American institutions.
